Overview

James Beck represents governmental entities, corporations, and insurance companies in federal and state courts and in front of various administrative bodies. Biography

Jim Beck joined Hill, Hill, Carter in 2009 after he received his J.D. from the University of Alabama School of Law.  During law school, he competed on the University of Alabama’s Trial Advocacy Team and participated in the University’s Criminal Defense Clinic.   

Prior to law school, Jim graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee with a B.A. in History.  During college, he was listed on Sewanee’s Dean’s List, and was inducted into Sewanee’s Order of the Gownsmen Honor Society, Phi Alpha Theta Honor Society, and Pi Sigma Alpha Honor Society. 

Experience

Jim Beck has represented clients in numerous cases involving business litigation, governmental entities, employer defense, insurance defense, and general litigation.   

Noteworthy cases include:

Jacob Daniel Rodgers v. Lavern Dale Gustum – obtained jury verdict in favor of defendant in clear liability “T-Bone” automobile accident case.

The Estate of Billy Ray Farris v. City of Troy et al.
– obtained summary judgment in favor of city, police department, and police officers in jail suicide case alleging wrongful death.

Rita Jones et al. v. Larry Teel – obtained summary judgment in favor of school board in suit where AEA claimed board failed to follow mandatory salary schedules and pay raises.

Julius Tate v. Montgomery Housing Authority – obtained complete dismissal on behalf of housing authority in suit alleging due process violation. 

Eddie W. Couch v. Mance Westbrooks – obtained trial verdict in favor of client in automobile accident case.  

Wiregrass Wood v. American National General Insurance Co. – obtained summary judgment in favor of insurance company in suit where insured was accused of over-harvesting timber
